Bombo Interview

Our Project Lead Jarrah Brillantes was interviewed today in the most popular Lifestyle Radio Show in the region. Bombo Lifestyle program recently earned a recognition as the best Educational Program the from the Catholic Mass Media Awards. Ms Brillantes talked about her initial contact with Sitio Lumboy Aeta group and how she and Jemar slowly put together the idea into an ongoing product development.

How did it started?

Last year, when there was a call for YoUnified All-In Panay Participants. YoUnified All-In project ran an incubation program for the youth coming from IP communities in the island. It assisted and prepared them in becoming a good leader and catalyzer in their respective communities. Through this project they were able to take a lead in addressing pressing issues and reecho their learnings with their respective communities. Few months later, I started working with 2 IP communities who participated in the workshop. Jemar dela Cruz from Sitio Lumboy later became a youth partner by my organization, Batiti Ground. We started working on their community's indigenous craft inorder to increase household income. Together with another IP Youth participant from 2016 YoUnified All-In, John Stephen Larroza, we hastened their skills further by participating to the American Institute in Taiwan International Youth Summit 2017 in Taitung, Taiwan. It is noteworthy to mention that this is the first international exposure and 2nd Youth Leadership Workshop (first was YoUnified) that the two have participated.

The leadership training and project management workshop that Jemar dela Cruz has received from YoUnified led the successful project pitching of Made In IP to the Angat Buhay Youth Summit last August 14-16, 2017. His project garnered $500.00 seed funding.

The Alumni TIES effort to localize projects has been realized by the progress and success of the YoUnified All-In participants.
